AMG (Aufrecht Melcher Großaspach) was founded in 1967 as a racing engine forge by former Mercedes engineers Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher, in a town called Großaspach, near Stuttgart. Soon the company saw owners of luxury Mercedes-Benz automobiles lining up to acquire the high-performance engines for their vehicles.
