5 Reasons a Certified Mercedes-Benz is a Smart Buy

Mercedes-Benz vehicles have a long history of extended service lives that far exceed their warranty. The engineering, precision construction, advanced technology and materials that go into every Mercedes-Benz despite its year of manufacture all contribute to a growing fleet of “used” Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the United States.

Generally speaking a used Mercedes-Benz, particularly one that comes with its maintenance records will be a superior pre-owned vehicle. However there is one factor that can have significant impact on the condition of any used car that no automotive manufacturer can completely mitigate?the previous owner(s).

A vehicle owned by a person who neglects maintenance or otherwise abuses the vehicle is most likely a vehicle that has, or has pending, mechanical, electrical or possibly even structural problems. The uncertainty of a car’s past is the number one concern of consumers shopping the pre-owned market.

Mercedes-Benz provides consumer confidence with its Certified pre-owned automobiles

Mercedes-Benz has a corporate motto that reads “the best or nothing” which they apply to every aspect of their business. When they developed the Mercedes-Benz Certified pre-owned program they wanted a process that ensured the consumer would get an expertly reconditioned car and the assurances that the vehicle would perform as advertised. As they do in all things, the company came out with the best certification in the industry.

  1. All used Mercedes-Benz vehicles are not eligible to be certified. The automobile has to be less than six years old. On cars under 6 years a CARFAX® history is run to verify odometer reading, determine if the vehicle has been in an accident and repair history. The vehicle has to have a clean and clear title. Maintenance records are reviewed to determine if there are any chronic irreparable problems. If a car can’t pass this first pass it is not considered for certified status.
  2. The inspection process is exhaustive covering 136-points in the pre-road test phase carried out by factory certified technicians. Virtually every system is examined. If refurbishing is required only original Mercedes-Benz parts are used as replacements.
  3. After the inspection the car is road tested and an additional 14 points including instruments, vibration and noise, shift lock operations, and more are all checked. After the road test the car is inspected for leaks. Once a car successfully passes these inspections and tests it is deemed “certified.”
  4. Perhaps the biggest benefit of the Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-owned program is the warranty. If an original warranty is still in force it is transferred to the new owner and the certified pre-owned warranty (CPO) doesn’t kick in until the original runs out. The CPO is a limited warranty good for 12 months or 100,000 miles. Repairs/services can be done at any of the 300 plus Mercedes-Benz dealers across the country. Roadside assistance is available 24/7 and includes Trip Interruption Coverage should your vehicle break down 100 miles or more away from home.
  5. For those buyers who are low mileage drivers and would prefer a longer warranty period, Mercedes-Benz offers an optional extended warranty that can add 12 or 24 months to the CPO.
